This newly built, mid-century styled beauty is set within the ever-changing vista of the Onetangi vineyard belt. The home has large bifold doors to take advantage of the panoramic views of Obsidian vineyard, which specialize in award-winning Bordeaux blends. Walking distance from the house is an array of vineyards including Obsidian, Tantalus, Wild on Waiheke, Te Motu, Stoneyridge, and Casita Miro.
Walk down the road and you’ll find the majestic Onetangi beach. During the winter we have it all to ourselves, but in the summertime, you’ll find it an active lively place to spend your days. The beach restaurants have been newly renovated and they are always open for that morning coffee beach stroll, an alfresco lunch or a hearty dinner and brew! Including my personal favorite, Three-Seven-Two, Metro Peugeot Restaurant of the Year 2019 Best Destination Restaurant and Best New Restaurant winner.
The home itself was built in 2016. The interior has an open layout as the photos display. The bedrooms are located down the hall – Master bedroom with king bed and ensuite, 2 children’s rooms – the first room with single bunks, the second room with king single bed and trundler. We kept the children’s bedrooms on the smaller side on purpose so they will spend more time in the wide open spaces. With two young kids, we have plenty to entertain – a large trampoline, low maintenance chickens, and toys in our craft room. If you feel adventurous you may even discover our secret fairy garden!
We love our home and find joy in personalizing it to suit our interests. As a DIY family, we are constantly adding special items or constructing areas within the property. Most of the furniture has either been made custom, upcycled or resourced. At the moment we are currently working on extending the back deck for entertainment purposes. Ideally a fireplace next to the existing BBQ. We hope to have it finished by Christmas!
One thing to note is that we have a self-contained studio at the corner end of the property. The tenant is a sommelier at Casita Miro and mainly keeps to herself. The studio has it’s own entrance and pathway on the far end of the property.
Waiheke Island is a vibrant jewel of the Hauraki Gulf. With direct access to water sports, art, cinema, farmers markets, yoga classes, horse rides, nature parks, great food and wine, there is always something to entertain. A short ferry ride will take you into Auckland CDB, a major international hub for retail, food and city life. There really isn’t a greater place to call home!
